I did an over-the-weekend assignment for Businessweek for their review of Thomas Friedman’s new book That Used To Be Us. It was typical Friedman fare but they asked me to not make the illustration too “apocalyptic”. The art director and I liked two different sketches and he gave me the option of taking both to final with the understanding that on Monday morning he would present the options to the editor. So I did, and while I would have been happy with this:
